Ahh ... italian coffee ... it's worth the 5 hour car journey to our nearest city with an air conditioned coffee shop ... a little respite from the blasting heat & smell of the day.
Unfortunately the "Educational Supplies" in Lucknow is little more than a toy shop; & parents of course will buy a toy if it looks educational ... the jigsaws etc. on offer won't help teach place value like a good abacus though... & they don't have dice, or 1cm cubes, lengths & blocks .... Ok, I'm off the high horse now. Thud.
Gill had the birthday - celebration - attended - by - a - million - guests experience this evening. The guests were nearly all insects. After an excellent summer (in insect world = lots of heat & water) they are doing really well. OK I am actually helping you Westerners feel a little grateful for the cold, right? More, you said? Ok: badminton by spotlight outside: can you make out the shuttle behind that cloud of major grasshoppers, mosquitos & 5cm beetles (noisy at first but very crunchy when you just HAVE to step on them to make a shot)?! Hey when the shuttle hits the net, don't breathe in! Learning a lot about food webs - most of these guys really are herbivores - after one nip they just try to escape from inside your shirt! Female mosquitos are in a league of their own though! Sigh of relief - we have a net which is now strung up over our huge bed in J & R's lovely house. And we've been joined by a gecko in the room. He'll hoover up the mosquitos. We like geckos.
Little darling Diya (means "light" - a change from her tribal name) gave us a v. happy moment in Church when she sang a solo, beaming at us, on Sunday. She is a triumphant example of love over adversity. Well done J & R for bringing her here!
Gill went to Bahraich yesterday to get pyjama material. Well actually she went for a giggly girlie day out with Jen & Basanti. The job was a cover up.
I of course have lots of business - lots to do with the band, choir & music. ha ha. Really suffering!
School at 7:30 am ... night night xx
